2013 Honda Accord Sedan

2013 Honda Accord EX-L V6 Sedan Exterior

2013 Honda Accord EX-L V6 Sedan Exterior

The Honda Accord is fully redesigned for 2013.

Introduction

There's some anticipation of the redesigned 2013 Honda Accord. It's as if it were some strange date in the Mayan calendar, and while not exactly end-of-the-Earth stuff, the new Accord does indeed shake things up more than past iterations.
For one, the 2013 Honda Accord is no longer bigger and heavier than the one it replaces. Perhaps in response to criticism that the previous Accord had become -- in Elvis-like fashion -- too large and too soft, the new, ninth-generation example is slightly smaller and slightly lighter. The tighter dimensions complement notable mechanical changes to make for a car that once again has not only segment-leading fuel economy but also a distinct feeling of nimbleness from behind the wheel.
After a long wait, Honda has finally added power- and efficiency-enhancing direct fuel injection to the Accord's standard 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine. This power plant is now paired to a continuously variable transmission (CVT) that becomes the automatic transmission for cars using the four-cylinder. With this combo, the Accord earns an EPA-estimated 27 mpg city/36 mpg highway, one of the best ratings for a midsize sedan and even better than those of the diminutive Honda Fit.
The 2013 Honda Accord's styling is a careful evolution from its predecessor, and while this may not please those seeking more adventurous lines, the new Accord design is visibly less bulky. Inside the cabin, the new car is noticeably improved, with a more coherent design and higher-quality materials. Also new is HondaLink, a connectivity system that integrates Internet audio streaming, social media applications and cloud-based content through iPhone and Android apps. Yet there's still plenty of get-it-done sedan functionality here, too, with a roomy rear seat and a big trunk.
As improved as it is, the Accord, just like the Toyota Camry isn't the no-brainer choice it once was. There are now many excellent choices for a family sedan, and each presents certain advantages. The new Ford Fusion is more stylish, while the new Nissan Altima is still sportier and more engaging. Equally appealing are the value-packed Kia Optima and the European-influenced VW Passat. Choosing one won't be easy, but we're pleased to say that Honda has restored an encouraging degree of the old magic to the new Accord.

Body Styles, Trim Levels, and Options

The 2013 Honda Accord is available as a midsize sedan and coupe. Four-cylinder sedans come in five trims: LX, Sport (new for 2013), EX, EX-L and EX-L with Navi. Opt for the Accord's 3.5-liter V6 and three trims are offered: EX-L, EX-L with Navi and Touring.
The 2013 Accord coupe comes in LX-S, EX, EX-L and EX-L with Navi, while the V6-equipped coupe comes only in EX-L and EX-L with Navi trims.
The base four-cylinder LX comes with 16-inch alloy wheels, dual-zone automatic climate control, full power accessories, cruise control, an 8-inch video display, Bluetooth (phone and audio), a rearview camera, cruise control, a tilt-and-telescoping steering wheel, a height-adjustable manual driver seat, a folding rear seat and a four-speaker sound system with a CD player, an auxiliary audio jack, iPod/USB audio interface and Pandora functionality.
Opting for the new Sport trim brings a bit more horsepower, 18-inch wheels, a rear spoiler, an eight-way power driver seat (with power lumbar) and a leather-wrapped steering wheel with shift paddles for the CVT. Compared to the LX, the Accord EX trim gets you 17-inch wheels, heated mirrors, a sunroof, keyless ignition/entry, the power driver seat, the leather-wrapped steering wheel, Honda's new LaneWatch blind-spot display and a six-speaker sound system.
The EX-L trim adds leather upholstery, driver-seat memory functions, a four-way power passenger seat, forward-collision and lane-departure warning systems, a more sophisticated rearview camera, an auto-dimming rearview mirror and a premium seven-speaker sound system with satellite radio and smartphone app integration (HondaLink). The EX-L with Navi adds, as you can likely guess, a navigation system with voice recognition.
The EX-based trim levels for the 2013 Honda Accord sedan with the V6 engine are pretty similar to those for the four-cylinder EX models. The V6-exclusive Touring sedan tops the range, combining LED headlights and adaptive cruise control with the equipment from the EX-L with Navi.
For the coupe version of the 2013 Honda Accord, the base LX-S trim is similar to the LX sedan. The coupe's EX trims are also comparable in terms of equipment, though the V6-powered EX-L has 18-inch wheels.

Powertrains and Performance

Most of the front-wheel-drive examples in the Accord range are fitted with the 2.4-liter inline-4, whether sedan or coupe. For all coupes and sedans except the Sport trim, the engine generates 185 horsepower and 181 pound-feet of torque, some 8 hp and 20 lb-ft better than the previous base-model Accord's four-cylinder. The Sport trim's less restrictive dual exhaust frees up the engine to the tune of 189 hp and 182 lb-ft of torque.
The standard transmission paired with the four-cylinder for the LX, Sport and EX sedans and LX-S and EX coupes is a six-speed manual. Optional for the four-cylinder sedans and coupes and standard for the four-cylinder EX-L sedan and coupe trim is Honda's newly developed CVT. With it, the EPA estimates the 2013 Accord will average 27 mpg city/36 mpg highway and 30 mpg combined. The Accord Sport automatic, with its slightly more powerful engine, returns 26/35/29. The four-cylinder Accord with the six-speed manual gets 24/34/28.
The 2013 Accord's 3.5-liter V6 is upgraded this year and now develops 278 hp and 252 lb-ft of torque. Backed by a conventional six-speed automatic, the V6's fuel economy numbers are still quite impressive at 21/34/25. With the V6 running through the six-speed manual transmission in the Accord EX-L coupe, fuel economy drops to 18/28/22.
With the four-cylinder, performance is markedly improved. In Edmunds testing, a four-cylinder Accord EX sedan with the CVT accelerated from zero to 60 mph in 7.5 seconds, a very good time for the class. The V6 is notably strong; an EX-L V6 sedan we tested sprinted to 60 mph in just 6.1 seconds.

Safety

Every 2013 Honda Accord comes with antilock disc brakes, stability and traction control, active front head restraints, front seat side airbags and side curtain airbags. Blind-spot monitoring, lane-departure and forward-collision warning systems are available on upper trim levels.
Worthy of particular mention is the LaneWatch blind-spot system (EX trim and above), which instantly switches the 8-inch screen's display to a low and expansive view of the passenger side of the car when the right turn signal is engaged. A camera in the right-side mirror dedicated to this function provides a confidence-inspiring view, and acclimating to catching the view in the center-dash display is quick and natural.
In Edmunds testing, a 2013 Accord sedan braked from 60 mph to a standstill in 128 feet, a slightly longer-than-average distance for a midsize family sedan.

Interior Design and Special Features

When the revised Civic debuted last year, we were disappointed in its interior quality. Matters are much improved for the 2013 Honda Accord. With a few exceptions, the materials have a high-quality look and feel, while the overall cockpit design is elegant and well-constructed enough for a luxury car.
The center stack embraces the spirit of legibility with an effective three-tier layout. At the top is the 8-inch display that offers varying levels of information depending on trim level and the presence of audio/navigation. Meanwhile, the main instrument binnacle contains the right amount of information and not too much.
Despite the Accord's slightly smaller exterior dimensions, its interior room remains impressive. There is plenty of leg and shoulder space for front occupants, and rear-seat passengers should be quite comfortable and happy. Road and tire noise -- often a Honda bugaboo -- are noticeably reduced in the 2013 Accord thanks in part to two active noise-cancellation systems plus improved aerodynamics. We're also fond of the visibility afforded by the Accord cabin, which offers a lower beltline, slimmer roof pillars and a generous amount of glass.
The 2013 Accord's trunk -- at 15.8 cubic feet -- is more than 1 cubic foot larger than before. The Accord coupe has a 13.4-cubic-foot trunk.

Driving Impressions

The 2013 Honda Accord should be a front runner for those who like crisp driving characteristics in their family sedan. Although it's not significantly smaller, the new-generation Accord certainly drives smaller. The Accord's electric-assist power steering is pretty light in terms of effort, but it's precise and relays information well. Although we like the Accord's handling balance, the ride quality is noticeably firmer than some rivals such as the Camry, which could be a turnoff for some buyers.
The 2013 Accord's upgraded four-cylinder engine is a pleasant surprise. Many inline-4s that have direct injection are gruff and hard to love, but true to Honda's strong engineering reputation, the new four-cylinder revs willingly and its power is entirely appropriate and satisfying. The all-new CVT will be the transmission the majority of 2013 Accord buyers will experience, but only the fussiest will find much fault with it. CVTs don't have the best reputation for refinement, but Honda's new unit is the best of the breed, imparting more realistic aural and tactile sensations of acceleration and generally avoiding the "rubber band" histrionics of most CVTs.

2012 HONDA CIVIC CONCEPT

Honda is, of course, a highly successful company with some big players across the automotive market board.  But its latest introductions have not been especially welcomed either by consumers or the automotive media. Both its Honda Insight and Honda CR-Z  models have gotten lukewatrm reviews, and neither is a big hit in the sales arena.
That puts a lot of pressure on the company to come up with some exciting, interesting stuff for the next Civic, especially when you consider how many compact products are either all-new or heavily revised in the all-new compact car market.
The 2012 Honda Civic concepts seen  at the North American International Auto Show look to be more dynamic products than their predecessors, and they both have design cues that should stand up pretty well in the marketplace if the production models, as expected, are close to the concepts.
The 2012 Civic embraces the company’s vision as a “Civic for all people,” a phrase originally expressed in defining the goal of the first-generation Civic. With the widest array of engine choices available in its class, the 2012 Civic lineup intends to meet the needs of an increasing group of compact-vehicle buyers with a renewed vision of a “Civic for all people,”  a Honda news release says. “The diverse vehicle range includes a sedan and a coupe with conventional gasoline models, two sporty “Si” performance versions, along with one hybrid and a natural gas alternative-fuel variant. Collectively the depth of the Civic line offers a compelling balance between fuel economy, low emissions and fun-to-drive performance unlike any other vehicle in the industry.”
Honda calls its current design theme for the Civic a “one motion” mono-form shape, and while you can still see it inthe concepts, the designs themselves are a lot more striking and dynamic than before.
The cars have “steeply raked windshields, wide stances and pronounced character lines along the profile. The lower character line on both models broadens toward the rear fenders to enhance the dynamic feeling of forward energy. The front fender surface treatments form a complex, three-dimensional look to further enhance the image of sophistication and structural depth against the deeply set headlights,” the news release says. “The Civic Concept sedan takes on a sophisticated presence with a front grille defined by crisp lines and a solid bar that integrates a chrome Honda emblem. The look of the Civic Si Concept coupe conveys an aggressive demeanor with a more angular front fascia, mesh grille and a tapered rear roofline that flows smoothly into the trunk.  The Civic Si Concept coupe is exclusively equipped with a rear air diffuser, a center-mounted exhaust outlet and a rear deck lid spoiler with dual vents. Each concept model has 19-inch machined alloy wheels,” the news release adds.
Of course, styling, while important, goes only so far, and what’s under the hood–always a Honda strong point—is equally essential for the company.
Not to worry–Honda’s  continuing its powertrain legacy.
The news release says, “The Civic’s family of engines with “intelligent” Variable Valve Timing and Lift Electronic Control (i-VTEC®) technology become even more fuel efficient for 2012. The upcoming Civic Hybrid offers the latest generation of the compact and lightweight Integrated Motor Assist™ (IMA™) gasoline-electric hybrid system and features the first application of a lithium-ion battery in a Honda hybrid. ”
The release says, ” Building on its emphasis on fuel-economy, most upcoming Civic models receive Honda Eco Assist™ technology, already available in the CR-Z and Insight hybrids. The 2012 Civic is the first U.S. Honda model to employ Eco Assist technology in a gasoline-only powered vehicle. Eco Assist is just one example of how the new Civic can be customized and configured by the drivers to suit individual preferences.”

2010 honda accord crosstour
The Bottom Line: With the Crosstour, you get all the advantages of an Accord with the plus of a hatchback (albeit a stylish hatchback) for added cargo carrying capacity.
American Honda, the manufacturer, has two new fastback vehicles out this year. And although they’re built by the same company, essentially, they’re completely different.
The Acura ZDX is advertised as a “four-door coupe” and it remains true to that philosophy with a hidden rear door handle and cramped rear seating.
The Honda Accord Crosstour, while it may look similar to the ZDX from a distance, is a whole ‘nother animal. The Crosstour is a real Accord sedan forward of the C pillar, with all the advantages of a sedan. It also has that sexy fastback hatch that is useful for improving cargo capacity, among other benefits. It’s sort of like a small station wagon, but with a sexier body.
2010 honda accord crosstour
Under the hood of the Crosstour is a 3.5-liter V6 that delivers a healthy 271 horsepower. Three point five liters seems to be the new 3.0 liters, as many vehicles are appearing with that engine capacity lately. The engine offers a quiet, powerful, comfortable ride, exactly what you’d expect from an Accord.
We also had the advantage of 4-wheel drive in our tester, which we put to good use when we had some snow on the ground. Of course, this winter, all we had was snow on the ground.
Handling of the Crosstour is good, again, totally within the Accord spectrum. The front seats offer good side support for when you get that sporty feeling and want to corner a bit faster than normal. The rear seats offer decent legroom and good comfort. You can fit two child seats back there and still have room for a thin person between them. One advantage over the ZDX is that you can get in the rear seats without hitting your head on the roof when you enter.
2010 honda accord crosstour
The advantage of the hatchback design is cargo. Even in normal mode, there are 25.7 cubic feet back there. Fold the rear seats and it explodes to 53.9 cubic feet, enough for a small house (okay, a large dog). And you have the advantage of the hatch flipping up out of the way when you’re stuffing stuff back there.
When you fold the rear seats with the rear release they seem powered. They aren’t, though, just well-balanced.
The cargo area has a flat floor as well as a nice storage area under the floor that has movable vertical sections to customize the space.
My wife complained about the rearward vision, as she did about the ZDX, Insight and Prius. All the vehicles have a horizontal bar across the window as the glass transitions from near horizontal to vertical. It does restrict rear vision a bit. You can get used to it, but it is a pain when you first encounter it.
We had a navigation system in our tester that was easy to program for your destination. I also liked it because if there’s no input (either navigation or audio) for a minute or so, the screen shuts off. This darkens it and eliminates the distraction, not only of the screen itself but also the light at night.
On the other side of the distraction issue, there’s a tray in front of the navi screen that is more decorative that useful. This has a surface that reflects the light from the screen onto the windshield. What is needed is a slightly longer hood over the navi screen.
Styling of the Crosstour is dramatic. It isn’t as dramatic as with the ZDX, but it’s a more practical dramatic. I liked it.
Other than the styling, the Crosstour is an Accord (not a bad thing) with all the benefits that nameplate offers.

2011 HONDA ACCORD

2011 Honda Accord EX-L V6 Sedan

Body Styles, Trim Levels, and Options

The 2011 Honda Accord is available as a midsize sedan and coupe. The sedan comes in LX, LX-P, SE, EX and EX-L trim levels, while the coupe comes in LX-S, EX and EX-L trims.
The base LX trim comes equipped with 16-inch steel wheels, keyless entry, full power accessories, air-conditioning, cruise control, a tilt-and-telescoping steering wheel, a height-adjustable manual driver seat and a six-speaker sound system with CD player and an auxiliary audio jack. The LX-P trim adds 16-inch alloy wheels and an eight-way power driver seat. The SE adds leather upholstery, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, power-adjustable driver lumbar and heated front seats. The EX adds or supplants LX-P equipment with 17-inch alloys, a more powerful four-cylinder engine, a sunroof, heated mirrors, power-adjustable driver lumbar, upgraded interior trim, a six-CD changer and a USB audio jack.
The EX-L adds automatic headlights, dual-zone automatic climate control, heated front seats, leather upholstery, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, an auto-dimming rearview mirror, Bluetooth, a seven-speaker upgraded sound system, satellite radio and the option of a navigation system with voice control and a rearview camera. A V6-equipped EX-L also gains driver seat memory settings and a four-way power passenger seat.
The coupe's LX-S trim is equipped similarly to the LX sedan, but gets 17-inch wheels and a six-disc CD changer. The EX coupe does not include the power-adjustable driver lumbar, but does get the EX-L sedan's upgraded stereo without satellite radio. Both lumbar and satellite radio are added to the EX-L. Opting for the EX-L with a V6 also adds 18-inch wheels.

2011 Honda Accord EX-L V6 Interior

2011 Honda Accord Driver's Dashboard

Powertrains and Performance

The 2011 Honda Accord LX trims and SE are powered by a 2.4-liter inline-4 engine that produces 177 horsepower and 161 pound-feet of torque. The EX version of this engine produces 190 hp and 162 lb-ft of torque. Both versions come standard with a five-speed manual transmission, while a five-speed automatic is optional. In Edmunds performance testing, an automatic-equipped LX-P went from zero to 60 mph in 9.1 seconds, which is on the slow side for this class. With the automatic, EPA-estimated fuel economy for both LX and EX versions is 23 mpg city/34 mpg highway and 27 mpg combined. The manual lowers the city number by 1 mpg.
The Accord EX and EX-L can be equipped with a 3.5-liter V6 good for 271 hp and 254 lb-ft of torque (251 with the manual-equipped coupe). A five-speed automatic is standard on both body styles, with the coupe getting shift paddles. The coupe can also be equipped with a six-speed manual gearbox. In Edmunds performance testing, a V6 sedan went from zero to 60 mph in 7 seconds, whereas a manual-equipped coupe did it in 6.3. The sedan achieves an EPA-estimated 20/30/24, while the coupe gets 19/28/22 with the automatic and 17/26/21 with the manual.

Safety

Every 2011 Honda Accord comes with antilock disc brakes, stability and traction control, front side airbags and side curtain airbags. In Edmunds brake testing, the various Accords we've tested over the years have stopped from 60 mph in about 130 feet -- on the long side for this class of car.
In the government's new, more strenuous crash testing for 2011, the Accord earned top five-star ratings all around for overall performance, front-impact protection and side-impact protection. The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety gave the Accord a top score of "Good" for the car's performance in frontal-offset and side-impact collisions and a second-best rating of "Acceptable" in the roof-strength test.

Interior Design and Special Features

The Honda Accord no longer features the sort of class-leading materials and construction that used to make its cabin a benchmark. There are more hard plastics than in some competing vehicles, and fit and finish has gone down a bit from the car's predecessors. A rather uninspired design with an abundance of buttons doesn't do it any favors. The optional navigation system boosts the button tally further, but its voice commands, high-mounted screen and multipurpose knob are at least user-friendly.
The top-of-the-line leather seats are polarizing -- some of us love their bold contours and firm support, while others complain of numbness after long trips and overly aggressive lumbar support. No such complaints have been directed to the backseat, which we've found to be the largest among the midsize class -- leg and headroom are abundant even for 6-footers. The 14-cubic-foot trunk is numerically on the small side, but it has a large opening and is thoughtfully shaped, making it seem usefully larger than it actually is. The coupe's backseat and trunk are obviously much smaller, but among coupes, the Accord is actually one of the most accommodating.

Driving Impressions

Though we admire the 2011 Honda Accord's nicely weighted and communicative steering, much of the rest of the driving experience is a minor letdown. In particular, the body rolls too much in corners (the coupe is better in this regard) and the ride quality isn't as comfortable as what you'll get from other top sedans. Another concern is the greater amount of road noise than expected in this segment.
The base four-cylinder engine is unremarkable, providing leisurely and rather raucous acceleration, but the upgraded 190-hp version is more refined and offers the same fuel economy. Past Honda V6s have been something to brag about, but the 2011 Accord V6 lacks bottom-end torque and feels noticeably less powerful than the comparable V6s of the competition.

HONDA S2000 SPOON SPORT ADVERTIMENT

In the world of Honda tuning, Spoon Sports has earned a reputation for offering the highest form of services and products. This is not an easy thing since Honda already builds its engines to a very high level. Think of the B18 or K20 units of Civic and Integra Type R and S2000 FC20/22 grown to more than 100 hp per liter. How can we improve this without compromising the durability and ease of use?

We have all heard stories of people throwing the pod filters and large diameter exhaust their search for integrase and S2000s horsepower gains, when in fact it had followed exactly the opposite. Of course, we can not interfere with the fine-tuning the delicate balance between intake and exhaust high compression naturally aspirated engines. E 'is precisely this mentality that has driven Spoon continues to develop these power plants, and not "disturb" their natural balance.

As soon as we heard that Spoon and a guy had just finished editing his latest demo car we headed straight to their workshop in Tokyo. We were greeted by Mr. Ichishima who immediately got to work with us to take some layers of the Spoon headquarters, where is the building area of the engine. We managed to take off and the monitor is currently building a motor FC20, which had been carefully assembled Naoki Yoshida, Director of Engineering. Yoshida showed us some interesting parts, such as F20C and K20 dry sump kit, the prototype of exhaust manifolds, finely polished head and spoke to us in some parts and work Spoon ago. We were shown a spoonful of suspension are assembled and how the attention to detail that the company is also known extends to similar care with the springs under the weight so that the entire four-plate series, offers the best performance and feel when using the car.
